This week marks the seventh anniversary of my company, avertua, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t feeling a twinge of the seven-year itch. Don’t get me wrong; I love my company, my team, my clients and my work. But at the same time, it also feels like the perfect time to shake things up a bit.
Part of the itch is that I have been disengaging myself from the day-to-day operations of my business for a couple of years now, and this has given me a new perspective on the company. With that new perspective, I see many new paths the business can take that will allow us to strengthen relationships with current clients, help more small business owners, and provide the most well-rounded collaborative services possible.
While nothing has been officially put into place yet, I thought a fitting post to celebrate our seven-year anniversary would be a list of some of the way you can inject new life into a business that is celebrating seven years, 25 years or even six months. Here are some itch-scratching things you can do:
- Diversify your products or services
- Scale down your products or services
- Niche down to a smaller target audience
- Try a new marketing technique
- Redesign your website
- Add a business blog
- Increase your rates
- Change your pricing structure
- Change your entire business model
- Solidify (or build) a team
- Delegate more
- Delegate less
- Join forces with a colleague (or a competitor)
- Set new goals
- Redefine your ideal client
- Try a new app, tool or service to improve your productivity
- Create new standards and document them
When you start thinking about it, there are probably hundreds of ways you can revitalize your business. It just takes an open mind and a willingness to change. I believe that change is a good thing, and for me, seven years seems like a darn good time to make some changes, so more on this to come.
